Mahindra Scorpio Classic S11

The Scorpio Classic S11 has been the workhorse of long-distance Rajasthan travel for two decades, and our 2025 example is the one to pick if you're putting a full family or a group of friends on the road. The mHawk diesel motor pulls cleanly from low revs, which matters when you're climbing the ghats on the way to Mount Abu or sitting in traffic at the Pali toll plaza — you're never short of torque, even fully loaded with seven adults and luggage.

Inside, it's traditional Scorpio: a high seating position with commanding visibility over the highway, fabric seats that survive sand and chai spills, and a rear bench that genuinely seats three children or two adults for a Jaisalmer day-trip. The third row is best for kids or for shorter hops between Jodhpur and Pushkar. Climate AC works through all three rows, with separate vents at the back — non-negotiable in Rajasthan summers when cabin temperatures spike well past 40°C.

Practically, it carries a full set of soft bags for seven plus a hard-sided trolley in the back when the third row is folded. Ground clearance handles the broken stretches between Bikaner and Jaisalmer without complaint, and the diesel returns a usable 12–14 km/L on highway runs at sensible speeds. Our S11 trim adds the touchscreen, reverse camera, and steering-mounted controls, so phone-mirrored navigation is straightforward.
